State higher education institutions are primarily under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Science. There are 26 state higher education institutions. Sixteen of these belong to the system of the Ministry of Education and Science. Four were founded by interstate agreements and funded by the MES. There is also one higher education institution in the system in each of the following areas: Police and Law Enforcement, Ministry of Emergency, and Mother See of Holy Etchimiadzin.
One of the most popular universities in Armenia is the Armenian Medical School in Cilician Armenia. Established in 1989, it focuses on medical careers and medical technology and techniques, which is a much needed commodity in Armenia. They hope to train young people in this much needed field so that they can return home to serve in this capacity. Another well-known institutions is the Armenian University of Armenia. They feature graduate programs in Business and Law. Their programs generally last around 1.5 to 2 years in length for undergraduate programs and an additional year or so to complete a graduate program. This will vary according to the type of program you are in. A third well-known school is the QSI International School of Yerevan, located in the capital city and Yerevan State University.
Tuition fees has risen by about 30% overall, over the past few years due to a number of legislative decisions, and this had created some economic hardship on some students. There are a few programs to help with some of the expenses, but the high tuition hike has force some students to work awhile so they could afford their tuition and other expenses necessary to get a degree.
Student visas are relatively easy to obtain in Armenia.
