About AUA

The American University of Armenia (AUA) is a private institution of higher learning, offering a global education in Armenia.AUA is affiliated with the University of California and accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission, 985 Atlantic Avenue, #100, Alameda, CA 94501, 510.748.9001.

Founded in 1991, AUA provides a high-quality, graduate and undergraduate education that encourages civic engagement and promotes democratic values, fostering scholarship in a setting that values and develops academic excellence, free inquiry, integrity, scholarship, leadership, and service to society.

AUA’s graduate program offers master’s degrees in eight fields of study: Business Administration, Industrial Engineering and Systems Management, Computer and Information Science, Political Science and International Affairs, Economics, Public Health, Law, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language. AUA also offers a dual Master of Business Administration (MBA)/Master of PublicHealth (MPH) program. These programs are intended to develop critical analysis and depth of knowledge through advanced coursework, independent study, and research.

AUA’s undergraduate program offers bachelor’s degrees in English and Communications, Computational Sciences,and Business. Through its undergraduate courses, the University offers students depth of knowledge for career preparation and further studies as well as breadth and a foundation of general knowledge and skills for life-long learning.

The AUA Mission

YSMU is a Government University functioning under the Ministry of Science and Education as a state non-commercial organization. The structure of the University is that of a traditional European University. The governing bodies of the University are the University Council, the Rector, the Senate and the Student Council. The highest body of the University governing is the Board comprised of 32 members. The highest administrative organ is the University Council, which convenes at least twice a year. The Council makes decisions about the main activities of the University. The Rectorate of the University controls the way the decisions are realized during the intervals between the University Council sessions. The hospitals, clinics and centers are involved in the University Council of Clinics. The Rector of YSMU carries out the direct control of the University Council, the Rectorate and the Board of Clinics. Administration and the faculty function collaboratively in accordance with the University’s regulations and laws. The overwhelming majority of University’s leadership comprises of highly qualified physicians and health care professionals having an excellent and lifelong experience as well as expertise in the relevant field of study. The faculty staff and the University employees jointly collaborate for the common goals to be achieved at best.

AUA initiated the accreditation process in 1998, was granted Candidate status in 2002, and reached an historic milestone when accreditation was granted effective August 2006. In March 2015, the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) reaffirmed AUA’s accreditation for nine years, through February 2024.

Strategic Planning

AUA is in the midst of developing its next Strategic Plan.

The strategic plan aims to help AUA meet the challenges and rise to the opportunities to better achieve its mission in the coming years by making sure that we have thought through our options and are ready to act in an informed manner when the time is right and situation arises. The entire university community is invited to share their thoughts and suggestions on the university’s future. We encourage stakeholders from various sectors outside the university to contribute to this endeavor as well

Library

The AUA’s AGBU Papazian Library website is a gateway to the information and research needs of AUA Community. It can be used to locate books, link to electronic databases, and to communicate with reference librarians and other library staff members.

AUA Extension

The American University of Armenia Extension (AUA Extension) serves as the University’s principal interface with the community. At AUA Extension we plan, design, develop and deliver a number of quality courses to meet the needs of most public and private sector organizations, as well as individuals at large. Our focus is on helping them fulfill professional and/or career goals through flexible and innovative adult and continuing education programs, including training, workshops, and seminars. We offer comprehensive English Language Training, a multitude of Computer Literacy and Information Technology trainings and a number of Leadership, Business Management and Entrepreneurship courses. Our mission is to foster individual, organizational, and community growth and transformation, through accessible, high-quality training programs. Our Vision is to become the Training Organization ofchoice to meet the changing needs of those seeking the best in Continuing Education, Adult Training and Lifelong Learning.

AUA Extension holds a unique position in Armenia and the region as a competence center for Education and Training programs serving the community for the past 18 Years. We have state of the art infrastructure, unparalleled building and classroom facilities, all aspects of technology from internet and Wi-Fi to Videoconferencing Capability and the most competent instructor/trainer base. Close cooperation between Extension and Academic and Research Programs at AUA have resulted in outstanding Continuing Professional Education offerings to our clients across corporate, governmental and non-profit organizations.
